Setting up eco-schools: a handbook to implement green school guideline is the result of collaboration between the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS), the Ministry of Environment, and VVOB. The Eco-School handbook to implement green school guidelines can be used for both pre-service and in-service teachers at primary and basic education levels. This handbook targets schools and teacher training institutions with the aim of educating and disseminating information to all teachers, teacher trainers, school leaders, students, parents, guardians, communities, and stakeholders to raise their awareness on the importance of green environments for their personal welfare and that of the people around them, both in schools and local residence. Moreover, the guideline offers schools a set of criteria to become an eco-school that recognizes the value and implements environmental sustainability practices.

The handbook consists of two parts:

  • Part 1 provides basic knowledge on the environment and education for sustainable development, as well as on waste management, climate change, water and energy saving, sanitation, and food safety.
  • Part 2 provides tools and strategies to effectively implement the Eco School Program in Cambodia.

This first edition was approved by MoEYS and published in 2021 under the support of VVOB.
