Building awareness at home

A physics class in Cambodia“Sustainable solutions; meso level approach; structural cooperation; substantive, supportive and strategic objectives...”

The language used in the world of international development oftentimes tends to lean towards the abstract. At least, through the eyes of the public whose support and interest is needed. To bridge this gap, we aim to broaden awareness at home and increase solidarity between individuals and peoples. Therefore, by launching its SchoolLinks and Internship programmes, VVOB is giving development work a tangible face.

Our SchoolLinks programme provides a model in which schools from Belgium and Cambodia can establish a long-term relationship and enhance each other’s activities through cooperation. VVOB Cambodia is currently looking for Belgian candidates to join the programme and partner with two lower secondary schools in Kandal province. Contact us for more details.

Meanwhile, the students of the internship programme let their experiences live on after their internship abroad is finished. By means of a post-internship activity, they contribute to the increase of public support for development cooperation in the Flemish society. And with that, they also help to establish a more accurate image of the developing world.

“By working with these future teachers, you reach the youth of tomorrow with good teaching methods. This is really a superb concept. I see how knowledge is transmitted through these workshops.”
Evelien Lammaing, post-graduate student Development Cooperation at Howest-Katho, intern at VVOB Cambodia
