This year the Science, Environmental and Agricultural Life Skills programme (SEAL) is coming to an end.

Aim of the programme was to improve the quality of education through strengthening pre-service teacher training on science subjects, environmental and agricultural life skills for primary and lower-secondary level. This is realised through:

  • Developing and distributing educational resources that are in line with the Cambodian curricula and context.
Two working groups of teacher trainers at the Provincial Teacher Training Centre Siem Reap have developed the Life Skills teaching manuals in close cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (MoEYS). The manuals are approved by MoEYS and are officially part of the curriculum of the Teacher Training Centres in Cambodia.
  • Trainings/workshops/study tours to improve pedagogical skills and subject knowledge of life skills teacher trainers of Teacher Training Centres and teachers of practice schools.
They learnt how to teach the life skills subjects in a more student-centred way.

In the last few months the sets of developed teaching manuals for Life Skills have been distributed to:

  • 24 Teacher Training Centres for primary and lower-secondary education
  • 100 practice schools primary education
  • 39 practice schools lower secondary education
  • 2,000 Graduated student teachers of 14 target Teacher Training Centres, to bring to their future schools
