On Tuesday 6 May 2014 the official launch of the MoEYS-VVOB collaborative programme 2014-2016 took place at the Provincial Teacher Training Centre in Takeo Province. The opening remarks of the vice director of the Provincial Office of Takeo Mrs Sary Phally were followed by a welcome speech by Mr Jan Geusens, country programme manager of VVOB Cambodia. Mr Leang Seng Hak, director of the Teacher Training Department then officially launched the programme. VVOB staff members gave presentations on the MoEYS – VVOB cooperation programme 2014-2016.

A number 130 people took part in this event. The launch was held at the start of a 2 day meeting with directors, vice-directors and academic staff of the 24 Teacher Training Centres as well as 18 directors of Provincial Offices of Education, organised by the Ministry of Education Youth and Sport.

Even though this official launch has taken place in May 2014, activities within the programme 2014-2016 are well on their way since early 2014. Three core teams are established: one for mathematics, one for science and one for teaching practicum. These core teams consist of members from the Teacher Training Department, Provincial Offices of Education, directors and teacher trainers of the Teacher Training Centres. Within this first year of the programme the core team members will build their capacity, gaining content and pedagogical knowledge and skills respectively for mathematics, science and teaching practicum. The core teams will review and update existing teaching materials and will prepare training materials for the nationwide trainings that are planned for in the next year.

All core teams have had their first meetings, the training needs assessment in the areas of mathematics, science and teaching practicum are as good as finalised and baseline information is collected. The core teams are now looking forward to receiving input trainings from Flemish partner institutions University of Leuven, KAHO Sint-Lieven and Artevelde University College Ghent, which will take place in the next few months.
